Lifting up The Community One Song at a Time

 

It all started when…

Attending conferences and festivals in different parts of the country, founding member Chris Shaw and his brother Andy decided to put on their own songwriting workshop in their community. Chris took the helm in 2020 soldifying Move Your Music Forward as an official 501c3 non-profit. The mission is to empower musicians to take their craft to the next level. Monthly Song Shares, writing with underserved communities, Artist Self Care Days, and the annual Columbus Songwriter Summit are just a few of the programs MYMF has to offer. Artist Self-Care Day

A time to set aside for mental health with like minded individuals in a safe supportive environment. Event is open to ALL - musicians, painters, dancers, etc - if you identify as a creative you are welcome! Licensed therapist and musician Katy Oberle will be our facilitator who works out of The Be Sanctuary regularly. Below is a description of what she has put together for this event.

UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES

Baked into the process is a goal of serving communities that are often overlooked. Keeping this in mind with everything we do, we look to amplify voices of the black and brown community by not only providing opportunities for them but to have representation on our own team. We pledge to not only bring music to communities like the elderly but give opportunities to musicians to perform for these communities. This uplifts the musicians and the communities they serve. We have worked in partnership with Story Point Senior Living and are looking to expand into other communities.  COLUMBUS SONGWRITER SUMMIT

Below are some images from the Columbus Songwriter Summit, held March 21st 2026. A full day of workshops at the Jazz Academy at Lincoln Theatre. We thank everyone for coming out, it was a huge success stay tuned for the next installment!
